Dhaka: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the nominees for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards, with Bangladesh’s Sharmin Akter Supta standing as the sole representative from the country. Supta will be competing against South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk and England’s Danni Wyatt-Hodge for the prestigious title of the month of November.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Supta’s nomination follows her leadership in Bangladesh’s three-match series sweep against Ireland. In the series, she scored 96 and 43 in the first two matches held in November, and added a fifty in the third ODI, which took place on December 1. Her consistent performance has earned her a place among the top contenders for the award.

Nadine de Klerk’s nomination comes after she led both the run-scoring and wicket-taking charts for South Africa in their T20I series against England. Meanwhile, England opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge made the shortlist following her outstanding performance that contributed to En
gland’s 3-0 series victory.

Sharmin Akter Supta’s nomination marks a significant milestone, as Nahida Akter remains the only Bangladeshi woman to have won the ICC Player of the Month award since its inception. An ICC press release highlighted Supta’s impressive start to the ODI series against Ireland, where she delivered two standout performances, including a career-high 96 in the first match, contributing to a 154-run win for Bangladesh. Her subsequent 43 in the second match paved the way for a five-wicket victory in Mirpur.

In the men’s category, no Bangladeshi player has been shortlisted. The nominees include India’s Jasprit Bumrah, South Africa’s Marco Jansen, and Pakistan’s Haris Rauf. Bumrah’s nomination is attributed to his exceptional bowling performance in India’s opening Test victory over Australia in Perth, which saw him reclaim the top spot in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings. Marco Jansen impressed with his performances in the T20I series against India and in South Africa’s Test win over Sri
Lanka. Haris Rauf played a crucial role in Pakistan’s first ODI series win in Australia since 2002.
