The game was evenly contested, though Portugal had 62 percent of the ball possession. The Portuguese side took an early lead in the 5th minute with an equalizer by Ricardo Horta. South Korea then started to put pressure on the opposition’s defense in order to discard Portugal’s 1-0 advantage.

The Korean Republic did find the back of the net in the 27th minute as Kim Young-gwon scored the goal. The score remained the same at the end of the first half.

South Korea tried to be a bit more active in the second half, pushing to take the lead. They came close on a number of occasions but were denied by young goalkeeper Diogo Costa. Cristiano Ronaldo, who had a dull game against Korea, was subbed off in the second half.
