Sunamganj: Advocate Md. Abdul Hamid has been elected president and Advocate Humayun Kabir general secretary of the Sunamganj District Bar Association following its annual election held on Monday. Voting took place at the Bar Association office from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on February 16, and the results were announced at night after the completion of vote counting by the election commission.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Advocate Md. Abdul Hamid secured 167 votes to defeat his nearest rival, Md. Tayybur Rahman Babul, who received 109 votes. Advocate Humayun Kabir won the post of general secretary with 181 votes, while his closest contender, Advocate Md. Mosahid Ali, garnered 82 votes.
In other results, Advocate Abdul Khalek was elected joint general secretary with 180 votes, narrowly defeating Advocate Abu Taher Mohammad Sarwar, who received 178 votes. Advocate Md. Nazmul Karim was elected deputy general secretary with 201 votes, surpassing Advocate Md. Gias Uddin, who secured 134 votes.
Several candidates, such as Senior Vice President Advocate Dr. Md. Ziaur Rahman, Vice President Advocate Prosenjit Dey, Finance Secretary Advocate Md. Abul Hossain, and others were elected unopposed. Additionally, five individuals were elected unopposed as executive members.
The election saw a voter turnout of 374 out of 444 registered voters. The election was overseen by Chief Election Commissioner Advocate Md. Shamsul Karim, alongside Election Commissioners Advocates Mohammad Nazim Koyes Azad and Mohammad Masook Ahmed.
