Rajshahi: An initiative has been launched to provide free Korean language education and para Taekwondo training to students with disabilities at Rajshahi University (RU). The initiative aims to enhance their self-confidence, self-defence skills, and overall capabilities while creating opportunities for them to participate in competitions at national and international levels.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an exchange meeting with students with disabilities was held today at the Taekwondo office room of the university's central gymnasium. This meeting was organised by the Rajshahi University unit of the Physically-Challenged Development Foundation (PDF). Senior Deputy Director of RU's Department of Physical Education and International Taekwondo Master and Coach of the university Taekwondo team Md Kamruzzaman Chanchal and Korean language professors from the Institute of English and Other Languages, Professor Im Bong Taek and Professor Ajion, attended the meeting.
Speaking at the event, PDF President Md Azhar emphasized the importance of the initiative in providing students with disabilities opportunities to learn Korean and receive Taekwondo training. He highlighted that these opportunities would help enhance their skills, boost self-confidence, and open up new possibilities for them. He also sought cooperation from all concerned to implement the initiative.
Professor Im Bong Taek expressed a desire to expand learning opportunities for students with disabilities by introducing free Korean language education for them. So far, 21 students have registered to receive Korean language education and Taekwondo training, demonstrating strong interest in the programmes.
After the meeting, students visited the training room of the Rajshahi University Taekwondo Club, where they were introduced to different aspects of Taekwondo training. The organisers hope the initiative will help improve the students' language skills, self-defence abilities, self-confidence, and physical fitness. They also expect that the programme will eventually enable the students to compete at national and international levels and potentially open a pathway to participation in the Paralympic Games.
The event was attended by around 30 students with disabilities from different departments. PDF General Secretary Shahin Alam, Volunteer Management Secretary Md Kausar Ali, Research and Publication Secretary Amran Emon, Communication Secretary Raka Naznin Oishi, and Rajshahi University Taekwondo Club President Shahin Ali, along with its members, were present.
