Dhaka: Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee today emphasized the importance of discussing student politics in the parliamentary session. Taking part in the discussion on the thanksgiving motion related to the President's speech, Anee likened the significance of debating student politics to the pressing energy situation, highlighting the necessity of addressing it within the parliamentary framework.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister expressed concerns over the aggressive nature of student politics, which, in his view, harks back to the fascist regime following the July uprising. He urged the opposition to engage in parliamentary discussions to reach a consensus against allowing such aggressive student politics, advocating for the maintenance of political decorum in the country.
"There may be different political ideologies, but all political leaders should have a common goal of working for the greater interest of the country," stated Anee, who also serves as the lawmaker for Lakshmipur-3. The current parliamentary session is the first of the 13th parliament, which commenced on March 12 with an address by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
The Business Advisory Committee allocated 50 hours for discussion on the President's speech. Chief Whip Md Nurul Islam initiated the motion of thanks, seconded by Whip Mia Nuruddin Ahmed Apu.
During the discussion, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mohammad Abdul Muhit noted that the parliament has fostered an environment conducive to building a new Bangladesh and mentioned government initiatives aimed at decentralizing health services for sector improvement. State Minister for Road Transport, Highways Division, and Railways Habibur Rashid highlighted plans to invigorate the communication sector.
Opposition lawmaker Md Azizur Rahman of Jessore-1 stressed the importance of collaboration between ruling and opposition parties for the country's greater interest, advocating for mutual understanding and harmony. Other participants in the discussion included BNP lawmakers and opposition members from various constituencies, who contributed to the robust dialogue on national issues.
