Dhaka: After witnessing a downward trend in the two sessions, stocks today rebounded in the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges as investors remained active on sector-wise issues.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), advanced by 99.9 points to settle at 4,902 points, compared to 4,802 points in the previous trading session.

Market analysts observed that the indices trended upward throughout the session, as the swift market rebound from the previous day’s free fall led most stocks to close in positive territory. However, trading activities remained stagnant with wary investors taking a watchful stance ahead of the chief adviser’s meeting with the capital market stakeholders. This was evident from the total turnover in DSE decreasing by 29.1 percent to Taka 3.7 billion compared to Taka 5.2 billion in the previous session.

On the sectoral front, Bank issues exerted the highest turnover at 23.8%, followed by Food at 13.0% and Mutual Fund sectors at 12.0%. All the sectors showed positive returns, with Mutual Fund (6.1%), Paper (4.5%), and Ceramic (4.4%) exhibiting the most gains on the bourse today. Out of the 397 issues traded, 375 advanced, 10 declined, and 12 remained unchanged.

The port city bourse, CSE, also settled in the positive zone. The Selective Categories’ Index (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) rose by 61.0 points and 113.7 points, respectively.
