Dhaka: Stock markets today finished the session of the week flat as the major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges showed slightly down amid lower activities of large-cap securities. DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), lost 4.4 points or 0.1 percent to settle at 5,152 points, as against 5,156 points in the previous trading session.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, market participation remained stagnant, with market turnover increased slightly by 7.2 percent to Taka 4.0 billion. On the sectoral front, textile issues exerted the highest turnover with 14.7 percent, followed by Telecom at 11.7 percent, and the Bank sector at 10.4 percent.
Most of the sectors displayed negative returns, with Financial Institutions, Life Insurance, and Travel sectors showing the most positive returns on the bourse today, at -1.9 percent, -1.6 percent, and 0.7 percent respectively. Out of the 397 issues traded, 89 advanced, 243 declined, and 65 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, CSE, also witnessed a negative session today. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) declined by 19.8 points and 39.0 points, respectively.
