Chittagong: Stocks today performed mixed with major indices finishing flat. DSEX, the broad index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), declined by 23.4 points and settled at 4,927 points as against 4,951 points in the previous trading session. Despite a positive start, the benchmark index failed to hold its early strength, drifting into a steady downward trend as selling pressure intensified through the session.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, market liquidity continued to remain tightened despite average market turnover edging up by 6.9% to Taka 4.1 billion compared to Taka 3.8 billion in the previous session. On the sectoral front, Textile issues exerted the highest turnover at 19.6%, followed by Engineering at 14.9% and Pharmaceuticals at 10.8%.
Sectors, except Textile with a slight positive return of 0.2%, displayed negative returns. Services, Jute, and Paper sectors exhibited the most negative returns on the bourse today, with declines of 2.4%, 2.0%, and 1.6%, respectively. Out of the 397 issues traded, 90 advanced, 231 declined, and 76 remained unchanged.
The port city bourse, CSE, however, witnessed a positive session today. The selected indices (CSCX) and All Share Price Index (CASPI) edged up by 7.1 points and 10.5 points, respectively.
