Dhaka:State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M A Muhit has issued a stern warning against any form of corruption in the health sector, emphasizing the government's commitment to ensuring quality healthcare for all.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Muhit stated that the government will not tolerate corruption in the health sector under any circumstances. He highlighted the Prime Minister's directive for a zero-tolerance policy, asserting that every penny allocated to the health sector would be used transparently.
Speaking as the chief guest at the 32nd DNMC Day of Dhaka National Medical Institute and Medical College, Dr. Muhit emphasized that immediate and strict legal action would be taken against any individuals found guilty of corruption, regardless of their power or influence.
He further noted that funds from the public's hard-earned money would be invested in recruiting new doctors and nurses, providing free medicines, and ensuring quality healthcare services for ordinary and poor people. Transparency and accountability in the health sector were underscored as crucial, especially in light of past mismanagement and laundering of funds.
Dr. Muhit criticized the previous 15 years of governance, mentioning that significant amounts of money were laundered from the health sector and smuggled abroad. He also pointed out that the Dhaka National Medical Institute and Medical College had not paid income tax for 12 years, with those funds being embezzled.
The state minister added that the current government and new governing bodies are working to settle these past liabilities and restructure the health sector to align with the aspirations of the July Mass Uprising. State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Ishraque Hossain was present at the event as a special guest.
