State Minister Calls for Establishment of National Endocrine Institute

Dhaka:State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. MA Muhit has advocated for the creation of a dedicated national institute for endocrinology in the country, emphasizing the need for specialized attention in this medical discipline.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Muhit highlighted the absence of a dedicated institute for endocrinology despite the presence of specialized institutions for various diseases. He urged specialist physicians to initiate a well-planned advocacy effort, promising governmental support for healthcare services and medical research.

Dr. Muhit made these remarks at the 9th International Endocrine Conference held at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, organized by the Bangladesh Endocrine Society. He noted significant work on endocrinology is already underway at institutions like BIRDEM, Bangladesh Medical University, and Dhaka Medical College.

The State Minister stressed the need for a full-fledged institute due to widespread issues like diabetes, thyroid, and hormone-related complications. He also mentioned the Prime Minister's efforts to overcome societal divisions and promote unity, which he believes will advance the health sector.

Additionally, Dr. Muhit encouraged young physicians to focus on research in diabetes, thyroid, and obesity, aiming for collaboration with international researchers to publish findings in recognized journals. The event was chaired by Bangladesh Endocrine Society President Dr. Faria Afsana, with contributions from Chief Patron Professor Md Faruque Pathan and Research Secretary Dr. Nazma Akter.
