Dhaka: A stakeholder meeting on the 'Bangladesh Telecommunications Ordinance 2025', organised by the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, was held today at the BTCL meeting room in the capital. Chief Adviser's Special Assistant on the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb attended the meeting as the chief guest, as stated in a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Taiyeb emphasized that the proposed ordinance introduces several fundamental changes to the existing laws and policies, notably including a ban on internet shutdowns. This is anticipated to enhance transparency, accountability, and the protection of civil rights in Bangladesh's telecommunications sector. He also noted that there is room for modifications to the ordinance based on stakeholders' feedback.
During the meeting, various stakeholders expressed their opinions on different issues. The draft of the ordinance has been published on the Department of Posts and Telecommunications' website to inform stakeholders and the general public, inviting their comments.
The public and stakeholders have until November 15, 2025, to submit their comments on the draft ordinance. Abdun Naser Khan, Secretary of the Department of Posts and Telecommunications, chaired the meeting.
