Dhaka: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has apprehended a leader of the Shramik League in relation to a murder case associated with the July Uprising. The arrest took place in the Mirpur area of the capital early today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the detained individual is identified as Abdul Halim Sheikh, the president of the Ward No. 15 branch of the Dhanmondi Thana Sramik League. An operational team from the CID's Dhaka Metro South Division conducted a raid in Mirpur's Section-2 area at approximately 1:15 am. The arrest followed confirmation of Halim's involvement in the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Abdullah Siddique during an anti-discrimination student movement on September 19 of the previous year.
A murder case had been previously filed at the Dhanmondi Police Station in connection with this incident. Jasim Uddin Khan, the Special Superintendent of Police (Media) at CID in Dhaka, confirmed Halim's arrest.
The investigation disclosed that Halim played an active role in suppressing the movement and was directly involved in the shooting incident targeting teenage protesters. During the anti-discrimination movement, Abdullah Siddique was shot and killed on the spot in Dhanmondi. Despite efforts to rush him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital with gunshot wounds, he was declared dead by the on-duty doctor. An attempt was subsequently made to conceal the body, as confirmed by the CID official.
The CID Dhaka Metro South Division continues its investigation and operations to uncover further details of the case, as well as to identify and apprehend other individuals involved.
