Dhaka: State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque announced that the government plans to make sports compulsory for students starting from the fourth grade in the next academic year. This initiative is part of the ruling party’s election manifesto and aims to integrate sports into the school curriculum.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister responded to a question posed by Zahidul Islam, a Member of Parliament from Chattogram-16, in parliament. He stated that the program would initially include seven sporting events, with more disciplines to be added progressively. This move is designed to ensure that sports receive equal importance alongside academic studies, promoting the overall development of students.

The minister emphasized that the initiative is intended to decrease children’s reliance on digital devices and encourage increased participation in physical activities. He expressed optimism that this would positively affect students’ physical and mental well-being.
