Sports Promote Discipline, Keep Youths Away from Drugs: KDA Chairman

Khulna: Chairman of Khulna Development Authority (KDA) Advocate S.M. Shafikul Alam Mona today emphasized the essential role of sports in safeguarding young people against drugs, juvenile gangs, and various social crimes. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mona highlighted the benefits of sports, describing them as a source of healthy recreation that fosters discipline, unity, and teamwork. He noted that football, in particular, instills qualities such as leadership, instant decision-making, loyalty, and mutual respect. These remarks were made during the inauguration of the final match of the 32-team Zia Memorial Mini-Bar Football Tournament at Balur Math in Khulna's Ward No. 21 on Friday afternoon. The event was organized by the Young Star Boys Club. Mona, who also serves as the president of Khulna city BNP, stressed the importance of regular sports activities in maintaining discipline, physical fitness, and mental health among young people. He expressed concern over the increasing screen time among youths and reiterated KDA's commitment to not only developing urban infrastructure but also ensuring a healthy environment with adequate playgrounds. He envisions a vibrant city that nurtures the younger generation in a wholesome atmosphere. Following the event, Mona attended a prayer gathering at Mariam Jame Mosque on Dilkhola Road in Ward No. 30 and later inspected ongoing construction work at Sritalabari Temple. The program was attended by notable figures including Khulna city BNP Organising Secretary Chowdhury Hasanur Rashid Miraj, former Joint Convener K.M. Badrul Anam, Metropolitan Krishak Dal Convener Akhteruzzaman Talukder Sajib, Metropolitan Sramik Dal Member Secretary Md. Shafiqul Islam Shafi, social worker Khairuzzaman Sajib, and Sheikh Abdus Salam.
