Special prayers held at Baitul Mukarram on Independence Day

A special doa and munajat was held at the National Baitul Mukarram Mosque in the capital today marking the Independence and National Day.

The Islamic Foundation (IF) organized the munajat. Besides, a short discussion on 'Importance and Significance of Independence' was arranged, an official press release said.

After the discussion, the munajat and prayers were offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of martyrs who embraced the supreme sacrifice during the 1971 Liberation War, and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family members who were killed on August 15, 1975.

Prayers were also offered seeking long live of the war-wounded heroic freedom fighters and the country's peace, progress and prosperity, the release added.

The 53rd Independence and National Day was celebrated across the country, commemorating the Liberation War heroes whose sacrifices ensured its freedom from Pakistani oppression in 1971.

Every year, the March 26 brings the most tragic reminiscence of the history's blackest episode that heralded a nine-month bloody ordeal from the night of March 25, 1971, achieving the long-cherished independence on December 16 the same year at the cost of a sea of blood.
