Dhaka: The History and Philosophy Department of North South University (NSU) today organized a special lecture titled “The July Charter: Understanding the Political Reforms from a Comparative Perspective” at the university’s syndicate hall. Head of Mission and Constitution Building Programme, International IDEA, The Hague, Netherlands, Dr. Sumit Bisarya presented the keynote.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, NSU Pro-Vice Chancellor (IC) and Treasurer Professor Abdur Rob Khan was present as the special guest while Professor of Law and Dean, School of Humanities and Social Sciences of NSU Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam was also present at the event. The event was moderated by History and Philosophy Department Chairman Prof Dr. Mahbubur Rahman.
Dr. Sumit Bisarya discussed how constitutions evolve globally, highlighted Bangladeshi students as drivers of political change, and analyzed the July Charter from a comparative perspective. He remarked on the Charter’s achievement, noting the extensive party support it garnered, while emphasizing the need for diligent implementation.
Professor Abdur Rob Khan expressed gratitude to the Department of History and Philosophy for organizing the event. Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam commented on the broader significance of the July Charter, stating that its success hinges on stable political and social conditions, and its potential to deliver tangible progress.
Dr. Mahbubur Rahman concluded by acknowledging the Charter as a positive step for Bangladesh, while noting that its future impact will rely heavily on effective implementation.
