Rajshahi: Speakers at a meeting here today unequivocally called for forging a social movement and resistance against corruption to create a disparity-free atmosphere in society. They emphasized the need for spontaneous participation from the community and the younger generation to build mass opinion against corruption.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, government officials and members of civil society made these observations during a discussion held at the Zila Parishad Auditorium in the city. The event was organized by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and District and Divisional Administrations to mark International Anti-Corruption Day-2025. The theme for this year, ‘Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity’, underscores the essential role of young people in creating fairer and more transparent societies.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Dr. ANM Bazlur Rashid addressed the meeting as the chief guest, while Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Dr. Muhammad Shahjahan spoke as a special guest. ACC Director Fazlul Haque chaired the session. Additional speakers included Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Khorshed Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Afia Akhter, and Superintendent of Police Naimul Hassan.
The discussants emphasized the importance of empowering the community to check corruption at both institutional and individual levels. They noted that institutional corruption must be addressed before taking lawful action against individuals involved in corruption, whether willingly or unwillingly. Dr. Bazlur Rashid highlighted the need for building the community’s capacity to raise their voices against corruption. “It’s high time that we have to prevent corruption. We can’t keep an uneven path of corruption for our future generation. We want to establish such a country which will be free from corruption,” he reiterated.
The commissioner also stressed the importance of making both government and non-government service delivery activities transparent and accountable to combat corruption effectively.
