Dhaka: The Vice President of SpaceX, Lauren Dreyer, has commended the coordinated efforts of government officials in Bangladesh for supporting the effective launching of Starlink in the country. She made the remarks during a meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dreyer expressed admiration for the country's efficiency and decisiveness, noting that SpaceX operates in 150 countries and territories and had never encountered such streamlined facilitation before. She extended her appreciation on behalf of SpaceX and expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations.
Professor Yunus thanked Dreyer for her visit and highlighted the challenges and opportunities presented by the monsoon season in Bangladesh. He emphasized the need for reliable technology to maintain connectivity, especially in remote hill tracts where educational and healthcare services are lacking. Plans to introduce online education in 100 schools and prioritize digital healthcare were discussed as measures to enhance connectivity and service delivery in underserved regions.
Yunus explained the importance of digital healthcare, particularly for facilitating medical consultations in remote areas and for expatriates facing language barriers abroad. He shared aspirations for these initiatives to serve as global models, recognizing the potential to extend these services beyond Bangladesh.
Dreyer acknowledged Yunus's insights and praised his leadership in improving public service delivery and combating corruption. She highlighted the role of technology in decentralizing services and enhancing governance, noting the significance of Bangladesh's initiatives on the global stage.
The meeting was attended by Richard Griffiths, Global Engagement Consultant of SpaceX; National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman; Chief Adviser's Special Assistant for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb; and Executive Chairman of BIDA and BEZA, Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun.
