South Korean President Invited to Visit Bangladesh to Enhance Cooperation

Dhaka:Bangladesh is anticipating an official visit from South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, aiming to strengthen the expanding cooperation between the two nations.

According to United News of Bangladesh, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir is set to depart for Seoul early Wednesday to personally deliver an invitation from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to the South Korean President. The invitation is part of efforts to enhance bilateral ties, a senior official confirmed.

In a related development, Korean Ambassador to Bangladesh Kim Ji-joon met with State Minister Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday. During the meeting, Ambassador Kim praised the initiative to hand-deliver the invitation, viewing it as a positive step toward further strengthening the bilateral relationship.

State Minister Kobir expressed optimism about the conclusion of negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), expecting it to boost trade and investment between the two countries. He emphasized Bangladesh's strong commitment to maintaining and enhancing its longstanding relations with South Korea, highlighting cooperation in trade, investment, development, human resource development, and technology.

Discussions also covered Kobir's upcoming visit to Korea, where he plans to engage with senior Korean officials and representatives from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The talks focused on increasing Korean investment in Bangladesh, especially in sectors such as technology, artificial intelligence, shipbuilding, and electronics.

Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to deepening Bangladesh-Korea relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Ambassador Kim noted the growing partnership and expressed Korea's interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
