Smuggled Goods Worth Tk 1 Crore Seized in Sylhet

Sylhet: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized smuggled goods worth Taka one crore from different border areas of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts early this morning. On a tip-off, BGB teams from Banglabazar, Bichnakandi, Utma Labia, Karairag, Sonalichela, Sangram, Tamabil, and Pratappur BOPs of Sylhet and Sunamganj districts under BGB-48 Sylhet Battalion conducted the drives in the border areas and seized the smuggled goods, a BGB press release said this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the drives, BGB seized smuggled Indian medicines, sugar, soap, stones, malta, grapes, coconuts, chocolates, fuchka, winter blankets, betel nuts, sulfur, and liquor. Besides, garlic and horn fish that were being smuggled out of Bangladesh, a trolley used for transporting smuggled goods, and a boat used to lift stones illegally were also seized during the drive.

BGB Sylhet Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Md. Nazmul Haque stated that regular patrolling and intelligence activities are continuing to maintain border security and prevent smuggling.
