Dhaka: The government has taken decisive action by suspending six high-ranking police officers over allegations of negligence in professional duties, unauthorized absence from work, and disobedience of government rules. The Home Ministry's Disciplinary-1 Branch issued separate notifications on Wednesday, mandating the suspensions to be effective immediately.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the suspended officers include Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, who served as superintendent of police at the Range DIG's Office in Khulna and was formerly the deputy commissioner of police of Wari Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). The list also features Kazi Ashraful Azim, previously the deputy commissioner of police of Uttara Division, DMP; Biplob Kumar Sarker and Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, both former joint commissioners of police of DMP; Rajan Kumar Das, the Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN) Additional Superintendent of Police; and Golam Ruhani, DMP Assistant Commissioner.
The notifications highlighted that Iqbal Hossain has been absent since August 28, 2024, Ashraful Azim since August 14, 2024, Biplob Kumar Sarker since August 6, 2024, and Sudip Kumar Chakraborty since August 22, 2024. Additionally, Rajan Kumar Das, who was stationed at Ukhia in Cox's Bazar with the 8 APBN, has been missing since December 31, 2024. Golam Ruhani has also been absent from work since August 8, 2024.
The notifications further stated that these officers had remained absent for extended periods without obtaining permission from the relevant authorities. Despite multiple attempts to reach out to them at their current and permanent addresses, as well as through email, there was no response from any of the officers, as reported by the ministry.
