A 40-year-old woman was sentenced life imprisonment by a Sirajganj court on Monday for killing her mother-in-law in 2009.
Sirajganj District and Session Judge Court judge Fazle Khoda Md Nazir pronounced the order imposing Tk 10,000 fine to the accused and additional one year imprisonment in failure to pay it.
Mazziran Begum, wife of Shah Alam from Naimuri village in Ullapara upazila in Sirajganj, was accused of the murder of her mother-in-law Amena Begum in 2009.
According to the case complaint, on September 14, 2009, the two women were engaged in an altercation over a domestic matter when at one point, Marzina strangled her mother-in-law Amena Begum to death. No other family member was home at the time.
Later, a murder case was filed with police following a complaint received from Amena’s husband Shakhawat Hossain.
