Dhaka: A medical team from Singapore General Hospital today made a visit to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery (NIBPS) to provide treatment to those injured in the recent aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in the capital's Uttara area on Monday. The visit was confirmed by the Director of NIBPS, Professor Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin, during a press briefing at the institute this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Singaporean team plans to observe the patients for several more days. The doctors have reviewed each injury case separately and have made important decisions regarding patient care. Dr. Nasir Uddin stated that due to the changing condition of the patients, the medical team will reassess the treatment every 12 hours, adjusting the care plan as needed.
In response to inquiries about the Singaporean team's duration of stay in Bangladesh, Dr. Nasir Uddin mentioned that discussions on this matter have yet to occur. Furthermore, no decision has been made about sending injured individuals abroad for further treatment. Currently, 44 injured persons have been admitted to the institute, categorized into different levels of severity: eight patients are critical, 13 are on Complete Bed Rest (CBR), and 23 are classified as intermediate cases.
Tragically, a nine-year-old boy named Nafis succumbed to his injuries at NIBPS today, increasing the death toll to 29. As per the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the total death toll from the aircraft crash has risen to 29, with 69 injured individuals receiving treatment at various hospitals. The health ministry reported that Nafis passed away at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of NIBPS around 12:15 am today, just a day after his sister died from similar injuries at the same facility.
The aircraft crash has resulted in 31 fatalities and 165 injuries as of Tuesday.
