Dhaka:Singapore has shown interest in offering modern technology and technical assistance to bolster Bangladesh's border and immigration security, as stated by the outgoing Singaporean Charg© d'Affaires during a meeting with Bangladesh's Home Minister.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, outgoing Charg© d'Affaires of Singapore, Mitchel Lee, conveyed this interest during a courtesy call on Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at the Bangladesh Secretariat. The meeting involved discussions on a range of topics including bilateral relations, capacity building for the Bangladesh Police, and the modernization of security systems at both airports and land ports.
Lee emphasized Singapore's willingness to aid Bangladesh in integrating modern technology for border and immigration security and to provide necessary technical assistance. He also noted the ongoing expansion of bilateral relations and trade between the two nations.
Home Minister Ahmed expressed optimism about the appointment of a full-fledged Singaporean high commissioner to Bangladesh to further enhance trade and bilateral relations. He highlighted the existing diplomatic and economic ties and reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to establishing advanced, technology-driven immigration and border security systems.
The minister also hoped for extended cooperation between the two countries in combating extremism, enhancing police training, and facilitating technology transfer. The meeting was attended by Singapore's incoming Charg© d'Affaires Philip Ong, Additional Secretary of the Political and Immigration Wing Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, and Second Secretary of the Singapore mission Dhanya Lingesh.
