Simmons Concerned Over Taijul Islam’s Form Ahead of Crucial Test

Dhaka:Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons has expressed concern over the recent form of left-arm spinner Taijul Islam, as the team prepares for a must-win Test match. Simmons noted that Taijul, a key player in the team's bowling lineup, has not performed up to expectations in recent matches.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the coach highlighted Taijul's lack of wickets as a significant issue, with the bowler taking only five wickets across his last four matches. This underperformance has raised alarms within the team, as Taijul is considered one of their major weapons.

Simmons addressed the possibility of Taijul's reported shoulder injury affecting his performance, but stated that the medical staff would need to provide clarification on the matter. Despite previous trouble in the UAE, Simmons noted that Taijul has been training well and was able to bowl in practice without apparent issues.

The coach also mentioned that Taijul's form would be a crucial consideration when selecting the playing XI for the upcoming Test, which Bangladesh must win to avoid a series whitewash. If Taijul is excluded from the lineup, it would mark the first time since 2015 that he has been dropped from a Test match. Simmons reiterated the importance of this decision, emphasizing the need to carefully evaluate the situation.
