Dhaka: The government has announced a decision to revert to the previous schedule for shopping malls, markets, and shops, mandating their closure by 7pm from Tuesday. This move is part of a broader initiative to conserve electricity.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the directive, issued by the Coordination-2 Branch of the Power Division, includes additional measures such as turning off all billboard lights and ensuring that ongoing and upcoming fairs, trade fairs, and cultural programs conclude by 7pm. These steps have been taken following instructions from the Prime Minister.
The previous schedule, which required shopping venues and events to close by 7pm, had been temporarily extended to 10 pm during the holy Eid-ul-Azha. However, with the conclusion of the festive period, the government has decided to reinstate the earlier timetable in a bid to control energy consumption.
