Chandpur: A sweetmeat shop in the Old Market area of Chandpur district town was fined Taka 40,000 for selling expired rasmalai and mixing dyes in ghee. The penalty was imposed during a drive conducted by Abdullah Al Imran, assistant director of the District Office under the National Consumer Rights Protection Department.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation targeted Meem Bonoful Sweets and Pastry Shop, which was found to be making sweets in an unhygienic environment. The shop's owner, Badsha Mia, has vowed to avoid such malpractices in the future.
As part of the routine inspection, other establishments in the area were also checked. Leaflets and pamphlets were distributed to raise public awareness and encourage adherence to consumer rights regulations.
District Health Inspector Md. Nazrul Islam, Chandpur Municipality Health Inspector Md. Raju Mia, and a team of joint forces supported the operation. Abdullah Al Imran stated that such operations will persist in the interest of public welfare.
