Dhaka: Shipping Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam today asked the officials concerned to complete the ongoing projects under the ministry within the specified timeframe. He gave the directives while exchanging views with officials of the ministry and heads of its subordinate departments and agencies at the ministry's conference room, said an official handout.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, newly appointed State Ministers for Shipping Habibur Rashid and Md. Rajib Ahsan were present on the occasion. Rabiul Alam emphasized that negligence in project implementation will not be tolerated and that accountability will be enforced if delays occur without legal complications or specific valid reasons. The minister highlighted the need for development projects funded by public money to adhere to proper quality standards.
Rabiul Alam also underlined the significant role of the shipping sector in the country's economy, mentioning that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has mandated improvements and modernization in the nation's shipping and railway services. The government is dedicated to ensuring safe water transport for passengers by introducing timely changes in the sector.
The minister stated, "We do not wish to establish an authoritarian state system. Rather, we want to be true servants of the people. Protecting the interests of the people is our sole objective." He urged all ministry officials and employees to carry out their duties with integrity and dedication and directed them to develop an actionable plan for the next 180 days.
To ensure a smooth travel experience during the upcoming Eid journey, the minister instructed the relevant authorities to implement effective measures promptly, expressing optimism that collective efforts will ensure a comfortable Eid journey, as achieved in the previous year.
Shipping Secretary Dr. Nurun Nahar Chowdhury, along with officials of the ministry and heads of various departments and agencies, were present at the meeting.
