Dhaka: Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of eminent fiction writer, essayist, educationist, and Emeritus Professor of Dhaka University Syed Manzoorul Islam. In a condolence message, the Director General highlighted Professor Islam's contributions as an educationist, literary figure, writer, storyteller, and essayist.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Islam had a long tenure at the Department of English of Dhaka University, eventually becoming an Emeritus Professor. He was known for his unconventional storytelling and distinct writing style. His significant research on literary figures such as Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Shamsur Rahman enriched Bangla literature.
In his message, Rezauddin Ahmed prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and conveyed his heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family members and admirers. Professor Syed Manzoorul Islam passed away on Friday at 5:00pm while undergoing treatment at Labaid Hospital in the capital.
