Sheikh Russell Chess: Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 3-1 points

Sri Lanka beat Nepal by 3-1 game points in the second round Super League match of the six-nation Sheikh Russell Cup Invitational Team Chess Championship 2022 Wednesday in Dhaka.

 

Bangladesh Chess Federation is hosting the tournament to mark the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with the support of Saif Powertec, at its hall room.

 

IM De Silva, FM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan and Tennakone Lisara Samadith of Sri Lanka won against FM Rajbhandari Rijendra, FM Bilam Lal Shrestha and Bajracharya Rajendra of Nepal.

 

Singhesor Das of Nepal beat Kaluarachchi, Achinthya Shamen of Sri Lanka in the day’s second round.

 

The Super League match between Bangladesh and Nepal will be held on Thursday at 2:30pm at the same venue.

 

The prize distribution and closing ceremony of the competition will be held on the same day at 8pm at a city hotel.

 

State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russell will be the chief guest and distribute prizes among the winners.

 

Benazir Ahmed, president of Bangladesh Chess Federation and South Asian Chess Council, Mesbah Uddin, secretary at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and Tarafder Md Ruhul Saif, director of Saif Powertec, will also be present.
