Dhaka: Bangla Academy president Prof Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq today announced that ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had lost her capability to govern the country due to her prolonged misrule, oppression, and corruption. He made these remarks while speaking at a ‘shadow parliament’ event titled “July Uprising Has Proved that the Spirit of Amar Ekushey Has Not Gone in Vain” at the Film Development Corporation (FDC).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was organized by Debate for Democracy under the chairmanship of Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron. Prof Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq criticized Sheikh Hasina, describing her as a fascist leader who believed herself to be the owner of absolute power. He accused her of ordering the killing of innocent people and undermining the judiciary, law enforcement agencies, and administrative bodies.

The Bangla Academy president highlighted the enforced disappearances and torture of political opponents during the previous government. He added that the mass uprising, led by students and the public, forced Sheikh Hasina to leave the country on August 5 of the previous year. He urged the interim government to utilize the extradition treaty between India and Bangladesh to bring her back from New Delhi and put her on trial for mass killings and crimes against humanity.

During the debate competition held at the event, Dhaka Cantonment Girls Public School and College emerged victorious against Saint Joseph Higher Secondary School. The panel of jurists included Prof Abu Muhammad Rois, Prof Dr Tajul Islam Chowdhury Tuhin, Prof Dr AKM Mazharul Islam, and journalists Saidul Islam and Mainul Alam.

Following the competition, chief guest Prof Abul Kashem Fazlul Huq, along with the jurists, presented the trophy, crests, and certificates to the participants.
