Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed today criticized Sheikh Hasina, alleging that she fled the country selfishly, abandoning her companions. Rizvi made these remarks while inaugurating a free eye camp for the July uprising injured and underprivileged individuals in Banani, Dhaka, as the chief guest, a press release stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the eye camp was organized under the guidance of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and the chief patron of ‘Amra BNP Paribar’. Rizvi mentioned that despite recent threats from the Awami League to seize control of the capital on Noor Hussain Day, they failed to make any significant impact. In contrast, BNP activities were limited to peaceful processions on the day, unlike claims of armed vigilance by Awami League members.

Rizvi further criticized the Awami League, accusing its members of being prepared only for looting, as evidenced by a Chhatra League leader in Faridpur allegedly smugg
ling Tk 2000 crores. He claimed that Sheikh Hasina encouraged her party to loot while suppressing BNP activities. Rizvi condemned this approach, labeling it a selfish escape by Sheikh Hasina from her responsibilities.

He insisted there was no place for what he described as a “bloodthirsty murderous hero” like Sheikh Hasina in power and urged her to seek forgiveness for the alleged killings of numerous civilians. Rizvi accused Sheikh Hasina of compromising the country’s independence and sovereignty for personal political gain and called for the interim government to disclose all agreements signed by her between 2009 and August 5, 2024.

Rizvi criticized Sheikh Hasina’s government for lacking patriotism, citing an alleged unfair agreement in the power sector with India’s Adani Group. He urged the interim government to address market syndicates effectively to lower commodity prices.

The event was presided over by Atiqur Rahman Rumon, convener of ‘Amra BNP Paribar’, with BNP Treasurer M Rashiduzzaman Millat and
Health Affairs Secretary Dr. Rafiqul Islam among the attendees. Senior journalist Masud Kamal and other BNP leaders and members were also present as special guests.
