Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed has called on Kosovo to recruit more Bangladeshi skilled and semi-skilled workers, emphasizing Bangladesh's demographic advantage and capacity to meet international labor market demands. This appeal was made during a meeting with Kosovo's Ambassador to Bangladesh, Lulzim Pllana, at the foreign ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting addressed various topics including diplomatic relations, trade expansion, and cooperation in education, manpower, defense, and migration. Shama Obaed highlighted Bangladesh's young population, with approximately 65 percent under the age of 35, making it a sustainable source of skilled manpower for the global labor market. She also urged Kosovo to facilitate the enrollment of Bangladeshi students in its universities through scholarships and easier visa procedures for those traveling for various purposes.
The state minister emphasized the importance of expanding bilateral trade, encouraging Kosovo to import Bangladeshi goods such as readymade garments, pharmaceuticals, and jute products. She highlighted Bangladesh's favorable investment climate, inviting Kosovan investors to explore opportunities in sectors like apparel, ICT, and renewable energy. Shama also recalled Bangladesh's contribution to Kosovo's stability, mentioning the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers under the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo in 1999.
Ambassador Pllana expressed appreciation for Bangladesh's contribution and diplomatic engagement, acknowledging Kosovo as a gateway to Europe and the Balkans. He highlighted the potential for cooperation in trade, investment, education, manpower recruitment, and various other sectors, indicating readiness to strengthen bilateral relations further.
