Ghoraghat: BNP National Standing Committee Member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain today stated that BNP’s founder, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, established multi-party democracy in the country over the grave of BAKSAL. He made this remark while addressing as the chief guest at a discussion meeting organized by the Ghoraghat Poura unit BNP and its associate organizations in the district. The meeting was presided over by Ghoraghat Poura unit BNP President Md. Abdus Sattar Milon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Zahid highlighted that Begum Khaleda Zia established today’s parliamentary system of democracy over the former presidential system of governance. Dr. Zahid asserted that Shaheed Ziaur Rahman laid the foundation for multi-party democracy, which was later advanced by Begum Khaleda Zia when she was elected as the Prime Minister. He emphasized that BNP was founded to carry out reforms serving the people’s welfare and described BNP as the only political party genuinely implementing reform.
Calling for unity under a 31-point outline for structural reforms to secure victory for the ‘sheaf of paddy’-BNP’s election symbol-in the upcoming general election, Dr. Zahid Hossain remarked that those who believe BNP opposes reform are attempting to deceive people. He insisted that BNP’s history is one of reform and progress, aligned with the people’s needs, and aims to build a modern Bangladesh.
Dr. Zahid further added that BNP seeks to embody the hopes and aspirations of the people, nurturing and translating them into reality through action rather than words. The event was attended by several notable figures, including Poura BNP General Secretary Mukhtar Hossain, Organizing Secretary Al-Mamun, Upazila BNP Joint General Secretary Shahidul Islam Lelin, and others. Leaders and activists from the Poura BNP and its associate organizations, along with local BNP workers and supporters, were also present.
