Bogura: Shaheed Zia Degree College in Gabtoli Upazila of Bogura district is set to be nationalized following Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s approval for the process.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Secondary and Higher Education Division issued a circular to the concerned directorate on April 29, confirming the Prime Minister’s consent for the nationalization of Shaheed Zia Degree College. The circular detailed the steps required for nationalization, which include restrictions on the transfer of appointments and assets, conducting an on-site inspection of the college, and submitting reports on financial implications and any pending legal matters. Additionally, an opinion from the legal adviser of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education and an affidavit from the institution’s head are required.
On April 20, during a visit to Bogura, Prime Minister Rahman attended a program at Bagbari College ground. During the event, local residents expressed their desire for the college to be nationalized through banners and slogans. In response, the Prime Minister announced the decision to nationalize the college.
