Shahbagh: Police early today arrested president of Tanti League, an affiliated body of Awami League, from the city’s Rupnagar area on charges of killing an individual during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. The arrested has been identified as Md Iqbal Hossain, president of Shahbagh unit of Tanti League.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police stated in a press release that they arrested Iqbal in a raid at house No. 9 under sector 6 of Rupnagar Thana around 2.30pm. His link to the killing of Emon Hossain was discovered after a thorough investigation using information technology. A murder case was lodged on August 27 last with Pallabi Police Station.
In accordance with the case details, Emon took part in the student-people movement in front of the Popular Diagnostic Centre at Mirpur-10 under Pallabi Police Station on August 4. Suddenly, leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated bodies opened fire indiscriminately at the people participating in the demonstration. Emon sustained
critical bullet injuries in the fierce attack and was rushed to local Azmal Hospital, where the attending doctors pronounced him dead.
