Dhaka:Shadman Islam achieved his third Test century early on the second day of the match against West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. However, his innings was cut short when he was dismissed for 105 runs.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Shadman resumed his innings on 99 and reached his century by pushing the second ball of the day to the leg side for two runs. His milestone came off 220 balls, but he only managed to add four more runs before falling lbw to Joshua Bishop in the 77th over. The left-handed opener's innings included 11 fours and ended after facing 234 balls. This was Bishop's first wicket in Test cricket.

The decision to give Shadman out was reviewed after consultation with his batting partner Liton Das. However, the review confirmed the on-field umpire's call as UltraEdge detected no contact with the bat, and ball-tracking showed the delivery pitching in line and hitting the middle stump. At the time of Shadman's dismissal, Bangladesh was 221 for four.

Shadman's century was his first in 17 Test innings. His previous century was scored against Zimbabwe in April 2025, with his first also against Zimbabwe in 2021. Following Shadman's dismissal, Towhid Hridoy resumed his innings, having retired hurt on 42 the previous day.

Bangladesh ended the first day at 213 for three after 74 overs, with bad light causing an early close. Shanto had won the toss and opted to bat first. The team is playing without Mushfiqur Rahim, who sustained a finger injury during practice before the match.
