Shadman Islam Ruled Out of Bangladesh’s First Innings Due to Ankle Injury

Sylhet:Opener Shadman Islam has been ruled out of batting in Bangladesh's first innings of the second Test against West Indies after sustaining an injury to his left ankle during fielding on Friday. The announcement was made by team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Bayjedul stated in a video message issued by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that Shadman is currently not in a condition to bat in the first innings. Shadman, who had earlier scored a century in the first Test in Mirpur, suffered the injury while stopping a boundary on the second morning and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher. He was subsequently taken to the hospital.

The BCB's medical department confirmed that Shadman had sprained his left ankle and underwent an MRI scan. Bayjedul mentioned that Shadman is under observation, and the scan results would be available the next day, which would provide more details on the injury and the recovery timeline.

In the absence of a replacement batter, Nayeem Hasan stepped in to open in Shadman's place, scoring five runs off six balls. By the end of the second day, Bangladesh reached 88 for three in response to West Indies' 356.
