Mirpur:Shadman Islam was left stranded on 99 not out when bad light brought an early end to the first day of the first Test against the West Indies. Bangladesh concluded the day on 213 for three after 74 overs.

According to United News of Bangladesh, play was initially halted for about 50 minutes due to bad light and resumed for only four more overs. The umpires stopped the game again, deeming the light insufficient for pace bowlers, just as Shamar Joseph was preparing to bowl, and no further play was possible.

Towhid Hridoy, playing in place of the injured Mushfiqur Rahim, retired hurt after scoring 42 off 84 balls. He needed on-field treatment from the physio, and after taking a single, he sat down holding his left leg and was carried off on a stretcher. Hridoy had built a partnership of 80 runs off 168 balls with Shadman before his injury, and Liton Das replaced him.

Bangladesh reached 177 for three by tea, having added 81 runs after lunch. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was the only wicket to fall in the second session, out for 19 after a review showed he was leg before wicket to Jomel Warrican. Bangladesh were then 112 for three.

Shadman, who took 16 balls to score his first run, achieved his 10th Test fifty in the 34th over. Earlier, Jayden Seales and Shamar Joseph bowled tightly with the new ball; Seales dismissed Tanzid Hasan for seven, caught at second slip by Justin Greaves.

Shadman and Mominul Haque contributed a 59-run partnership for the second wicket. Mominul, who surpassed 11,000 first-class runs during his innings, was out for 28, caught at mid-off by Joseph off Warrican's bowling. Warrican ended the day with figures of two for 33, while Seales took one for 14.

Bangladesh's bowling lineup included pacers Shariful Islam and Hasan Mahmud, alongside three spinners, with Taskin Ahmed not included in the lineup.
