Khulna:Seven students from Khulna University have been awarded research grants under the "Student Research Grant Programme 2026," a collaborative initiative by Khulna University and Terre des Hommes (TDH) Bangladesh, an international child rights organization based in Switzerland.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, this is the inaugural launch of the programme, which saw seven students selected from 31 research proposals submitted for consideration. The recipients include Nabil Ahmed Chowdhury from the Economics Discipline; Md Helaluzzaman and Drishti Majumdar from the Sociology Discipline; Albright Baroi from the Development Studies Discipline; Khalid Ahmed from the Mass Communication and Journalism Discipline; Md Hasibul Alam Sampo from the Architecture Discipline; and Md Limon Sheikh from the Education Discipline.
These students will focus their research on various topics related to climate change, disaster preparedness, child rights, and community resilience. Their projects will explore themes such as climate change and child nutrition, cyclone preparedness among adolescents, child-centred early warning systems, salinity-induced health risks among women and adolescent girls, the role of youth volunteers in disaster response, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for children and young people in climate-vulnerable areas, and developing leadership and resilience among adolescents through sports.
The award ceremony took place at the university's administrative building, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized Khulna University's contributions to research and innovation, stating that the joint initiative with TDH would foster young researchers and produce impactful research targeting local issues.
Other speakers at the event included KU Treasurer Professor Dr Md Nurunnabi, TDH Bangladesh Country Director Jinnia Afroze, Director of the Office of International Affairs Professor Dr Md Ashiqur Rahman, Professor of Economics and steering committee member Dr Md Nasif Ahsan, along with TDH Bangladesh officials Mohammad Ehsan-ul Islam Chowdhury and Surjit Kundu. The grant recipients presented their research topics and anticipated outcomes during the programme.
