Seven Convicted for Life in 2012 Shahjadpur Murder Case

Sirajganj: A court here today sentenced seven individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in a murder case that occurred in Shahjadpur upazila in 2012. The verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Kaniz Fatema.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court also imposed a fine of Taka 20,000 on each of the convicts. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two months of imprisonment. The convicted individuals are identified as Md Waz Ali, Md Kunnu, Md Hamid, Md Arshed Ali, Md Abdus Samad, Md Iddris Ali, and Md Selim Reza, all hailing from Potazia village in Shahjadpur upazila.



Additional Public Prosecutor Md. Golam Sarwar Khan mentioned that the court’s decision came after a prolonged hearing, ultimately sentencing the seven to life imprisonment. Additionally, eight other defendants received rigorous imprisonment for varying terms.



The case originated from a long-standing dispute between the defendants and the plaintiff, Osman Gani. On the morning of August 23, 2012, the defendants allegedly formed a group to attack Gani’s family. During the attack, Gani’s son, Sabbir Hossain, suffered severe injuries from sharp weapons and sticks. He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Bogra Hospital.
