Senior leaders for unity to develop the country

Kathmandu: Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba has stressed the need for cooperation among all sides for the development of the country. "The cooperation of all sides is necessary to develop the country by safeguarding the democratic republican system," Deuba said, "minimum consensus and collaboration is necessary for the protection of the fundamental rights of citizens, lasting peace and good governance in the country." He was speaking at the Diamond Jubilee celebration organized on the occasion of the establishment of the Nepal Communist Party in Godavari, Lalitpur today. Also speaking at the function, CPN (Maoist Centre) chair and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' said that all political parties should cooperate for the development of the country. "All the political achievements made so far have been through political understanding and unity," he said while appealing to all political parties to begin afresh for understanding and consensus. Dahal also said political parties should r espect the contributions of every political party and work for the country and the people. Likewise, UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli called on all political parties to unite in the defense and strengthening of the federal democratic republic. He pointed out the need for a concrete plan to wipe out poverty from the country, end corruption and work in favor of the nation and national interests. On the occasion, Prime Minister Dahal, UML Chair Oli, Congress President Deuba, CPN-US leader Jhalanath Khanal, Nepal Samajbadi Party Chair Dr Baburam Bhattarai, then Chairperson of Council of Ministers Khilraj Regmi and other major parties' leaders jointly honoured former President Bidya Devi Bhandari with the 'Ganatantra Gaurav Samman' presented by the CPN-UML party. Speaking on the occasion, former President Bhandari said political parties must develop a high-level of political culture for a common vision to take the nation forward. She suggested increasing domestic production and productivity through the utilization of natural resources, cultural heritage and people's labor, skills and talents. Source: National News Agency RSS
