Seminar on ‘Role of Zakat in Poverty Alleviation’ Held in Khulna

Khulna: A divisional seminar titled “Role of Zakat in Poverty Alleviation” was held at the conference room of the Khulna Circuit House today. Divisional Commissioner Md. Mokhtar Ahmed attended the seminar as the chief guest. The seminar was organized by the Khulna Divisional Office of the Islamic Foundation.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Divisional Commissioner emphasized that Zakat is not an act of charity or fashion, but a compulsory economic obligation intended by Allah for wealthy Muslims. He stated that Zakat should be given solely to please Allah and not for show, emphasizing its obligatory nature akin to prayers for every capable Muslim.



The commissioner highlighted the potential global impact of properly implementing the Islamic Zakat system, suggesting that Muslims could regain their lost economic strength and prosperity. He described Zakat as not only a means of poverty alleviation but also a key instrument for ensuring the economic foundation of the Muslim Ummah.



He urged organizers to arrange larger-scale awareness workshops in the future, particularly during the first week of Ramadan, by inviting more Zakat donors. Islamic Foundation Secretary Sheikh Murshidul Islam and Deputy Director of the Local Government Division of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office Md. Ariful Islam attended the seminar as special guests. Director of Islamic Foundation, Khulna Division Mohammad Mohiuddin Mazumdar presided over the seminar.
