Seminar on Intellectual Property and Copyright Protection Held at Jahangirnagar University

Dhaka: A seminar titled “Empowering Academia through Intellectual Property and Copyright Protection: A Bangladesh Perspective” was held today at the Wazed Miah Science Research Centre of Jahangirnagar University (JU). Attending the seminar as chief guest, JU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan emphasized the importance of intellectual property protection for academic advancement and equitable access.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Vice-Chancellor highlighted the administration’s efforts to increase budget allocations for research and improve facilities for researchers. He also advocated for fair opportunities for countries unable to afford patented vaccines or protected innovations, stressing the necessity of developing an Intellectual Property and Copyright Protection Policy at the university to safeguard academic research.



JU Pro-VC (academic) Professor Dr. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman and Pro-VC (admin) Professor Dr. Sohel Ahmed participated as special guests. The event was chaired by the acting Dean of the Faculty of Biological Sciences, Professor Md. Mafruhi Sattar. Keynote papers were presented by Electrical and Electronic Engineering Professor Dr. Md. Anisuzzaman from BUET and former Bangladesh Copyright Office Registrar Jafar Raja Chowdhury.



Professor Dr. Md. Monowar Hossain, Director of the Wazed Miah Science Research Centre, delivered the welcome speech, while Professor Dr. Md. Rezaul Karim from the Department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering moderated the programme.
