Dhaka: A seminar on innovative assessment methods for primary school students was held at the auditorium of the Directorate of Primary Education in the city today. Primary and Mass Education Advisor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar addressed the seminar as the chief guest, organized by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event featured speeches from Education Advisor Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Executive Director of Campaign for Popular Education Rasheda K Chowdhury, and Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Abu Noor Md. Shamsuzzaman. The seminar was chaired by Primary and Mass Education Secretary Abu Taher Md Masud Rana and focused on the 'Shantiganj Model,' developed by Shantiganj Upazila Executive Officer Sukanta Saha.
The 'Shantiganj Model' fosters a competitive spirit among teachers and students, aiming to make children more school-oriented. It provides a framework for evaluating fourth and fifth-grade students while indirectly assessing teachers based on student performance. This model has notably enhanced the educational environment in Sunamganj by preventing dropouts, ensuring regular attendance, and addressing subject-based weaknesses.
Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar praised the 'Shantiganj Model' for its role in improving primary education quality in Sunamganj, calling it a commendable initiative. He expressed that expanding this model nationwide could lead to significant changes in the primary education sector.
Professor Dr. Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar emphasized the importance of practical steps to enhance education quality, stating that realistic and honest evaluation is crucial to addressing long-standing concerns in the education system.
