Chattogram: Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has been playing a leading role in the country's economic development and the protection of consumer rights, said Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan here today. He expressed the views while inaugurating the 10-storied building with a state-of-the-art self-contained laboratory of BSTI in the city's Agrabad commercial area today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inauguration of this advanced facility is expected to boost the dynamics of import and export activities in Chattogram. The laboratory aims to enhance BSTI's product testing and certification capabilities, thereby advancing industry and trade activities in the region and strengthening consumer protection.
Kohinur Akhter, the mother of martyred Faisal Ahmed Shanto from the 2024 student uprising, officially opened the newly built BSTI divisional office. Her presence highlighted the symbolic importance of the facility, as she shared the aspirations of her late son for a just and exploitation-free Bangladesh, emphasizing the need for ensuring fundamental rights for all citizens.
Several dignitaries attended the event, including City Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman, BSTI Director General SM Ferdous Alam, Deputy Commissioner Farida Khanam, and Public Works Department Additional Chief Engineer Md. Shahjalal Chowdhury. They underscored the significance of the facility for the local economy and consumer rights.
Industries Secretary Md. Obaidur Rahman noted that BSTI's initiatives in producing quality products and securing international agreements have bolstered the global acceptance of Bangladeshi products. BSTI Director General SM Ferdous Alam described the new laboratory as a milestone, aiming to benefit local businessmen and consumers by testing and certifying products.
The event saw participation from businessmen, representatives of the Chattogram Chamber, the Ministry of Industries, and BSTI officials, marking a significant step forward in the region's industrial and economic landscape.
