Patuakhali: Distribution of seeds, fertilizer, and saplings has commenced in Bauphal upazila as part of the agricultural incentive programme for the Kharif-2 season. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Aminul Islam inaugurated the programme at the Upazila Parishad Auditorium, with Upazila Agriculture Officer M Milon presiding over the event.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the programme was attended by several dignitaries, including Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bauphal Police Station Akhtaruzzaman Sarkar, agriculture officers Redwan Talukder and Md. Forkan, Bauphal Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Md. Ishaq, among others. The initiative aims to support 3,950 small and marginal farmers in the upazila by providing them with necessary agricultural inputs in phases.
On the day of the inauguration, 200 small and marginal farmers, along with some institutions from two unions, received seeds, seedlings, and chemical fertilizers. The distribution included seeds of Ufshi Aman, various vegetables, and saplings of lemon, mango, neem, bell, jam, jackfruit, and hybrid pepper.
Additionally, palm and coconut saplings were distributed to 23 educational institutions. The event also featured the inauguration of a fruit fair in front of the upazila parishad by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Aminul Islam.
