Khulna: Newly appointed Police Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Mohammad Zahidul Hasan has announced that candidates will receive security during the election upon application. In an introductory and exchange-of-views meeting with journalists at the Khulna Metropolitan Police press conference room, he stated that candidates must specify the type of threat in their applications. The police intelligence unit, CTSB, will investigate these threats, and if confirmed, necessary security will be provided.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Commissioner Hasan discussed past elections in Bangladesh, noting the deployment of around 1.75 million law enforcement members in a previous election, with about 150,000 police personnel in the most recent one. Other duties were handled by the Army, Navy, Ansar, Coast Guard, RAB, and BGB. He assured that no one has the capacity to disrupt the election, particularly in his metropolitan area.
The government has initiated special training for law enforcement agencies for the election. A three-day training program in Khulna was recently inaugurated, focusing on the use of body-worn cameras and techniques to manage voting situations. Trainers have been prepared by Police Headquarters to follow specific guidelines for this training.
In response to inquiries about the law and order situation, Commissioner Hasan revealed the presence of three active criminal groups in Khulna and ongoing efforts to address them. On digital crime, he acknowledged the technological advancements of criminals using encrypted platforms, but assured that police efforts to tackle these challenges are ongoing.
Regarding a recent murder incident on court premises, Commissioner Hasan mentioned that significant information has been obtained, though details remain undisclosed due to the investigation's sensitivity. Progress will be communicated to the media when appropriate. The meeting was attended by several high-ranking police officials, including Additional Police Commissioner Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan and others.
