Rajshahi: A scientific seminar titled 'Bridging Ethnopharmacology and Modern Drug Development: From Traditional Knowledge to Natural Product-Based Drug Discovery' was held today at the University of Rajshahi (RU). The event, organized by the Department of Pharmacy under the Faculty of Science's initiative, took place at the Faculty of Engineering Gallery.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar featured Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Mamunur Rashid as the chief guest, who emphasized the importance of connecting natural resource-based research with contemporary drug development. Emeritus Professor Mohammad Abdur Rashid of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Dhaka served as the keynote speaker, while Professor Golam Sadik participated as the special guest. The event was presided over by Professor Shahnaz Parvin, Chairperson of the Department of Pharmacy.
The seminar included significant discussions on the integration of traditional medical knowledge with modern drug discovery processes. It highlighted the potential for developing new natural product-based drugs through advanced technologies. Participants also explored the identification of effective bioactive compounds from medicinal plants and natural sources.
The event was attended by teachers, researchers, and students from the Department of Pharmacy and other related departments, fostering an environment of knowledge exchange and collaboration. Sohanur Rahman, a student from the thesis group of the Department of Pharmacy, moderated the seminar, facilitating discussions and interactions among attendees.
