Dhaka: State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj announced plans to introduce science toys and hands-on learning materials into the primary school curriculum to enhance the learning experience for children. This initiative aims to make education more enjoyable and practical for young students. According to United News of Bangladesh, the government is also planning to establish math labs in primary schools. These labs will focus on teaching basic mathematical concepts, such as shapes, sizes, multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction, through interactive activities and practical learning materials. The announcement was made during a programme titled 'Foundational Learning Action Tracker,' organized by UNICEF Bangladesh at a city hotel. The state minister emphasized the increased focus on science, mathematics, design, and creativity within primary education. He highlighted the need to address gaps in foundational learning and stressed that one of the primary goals is to ensure that e very child acquires essential reading, writing, and mathematical skills. Regarding the issue of out-of-school children, Bobby Hajjaj shared that the government is implementing various programmes to integrate these children into the education system. Initiatives include providing support such as free school uniforms to encourage school attendance. The first-ever free school uniform distribution programme is set to be inaugurated on August 16. Addressing the mid-day meal programme, the state minister mentioned that steps are being taken to overcome the challenges identified during the pilot project phase. The programme aims to improve the nutritional status of children and support their learning capabilities. Primary and Mass Education Secretary Jasmin Nahar, UNICEF Bangladesh Representative Rana Flowers, and Director General of the Directorate of Primary Education Shahina Ferdousi were among the attendees at the programme.
